A bushfire near NASAs Deep Space Complex near Canberra.
A bushfire near NASA’s Deep Space Centre has closed roads, however the complex is currently not under threat.

The facility, part of a wider network of Space monitoring stations across the world, is not threatened.
However, lots of smoke from bushfires is nearby and the massive Orroral Fire is due south.
The bushfire is listed as ‘out of control’ and has burnt through 630 sq km Of bushland so far.
The facility is the only Southern Hemisphere station of NASA’s Deep Space Network.
Something to remember is that the Canberra Deep Space Communication Gateway is right where I added the finger pointing to 🙁 pic.twitter.com/oBXp3YBs39

James Roper explains more on Twitter.
Here's an interesting possible consequence of the bushfires in Canberra right now… I've watched the fires burn slowly in the direction of the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex.

Which spacecraft is south of the solar system plane? Voyager 2. When it flew by Neptune it took a route that slung it to the south. So, if that complex burns down, NASA will lose the ability to contact Voyager 2. Hopefully NASA has a backup plan…
